Hillsborough Library Advisory Board
The Somerset County Library System is governed by a Library Commission, whose members are appointed by the Freeholders. Each branch library in the system also has its own advisory board, whose members are appointed by the mayors of the towns in which the branches are housed (with the exception of Hillsborough, whose board is self-perpetuating, and Mary Jacobs Library in Rocky Hill, which is managed by a Foundation). Five to eleven residents may be appointed.
The Advisory Boards have the responsibility for: oversight of overdue fines and contributions (such as bequests and donations); advising the branch director and SCLS on policy and service improvements; being the liaison to the mayor and council for the maintenance of the buildings and grounds; participating with SCLS in the hiring of a branch director, when a vacancy occurs. The Advisory Boards meet four to six times a year, in the evening.
