Borrowing Information
Books - Books circulate for four weeks
unless they have 14-day or 21-day stickers. Three books with the same call number may be taken out
at one time.
Periodicals - Children's magazines,
except for the most issues, may be
taken out for two weeks. Adult magazines, except the most recent issue, may be checked out
for two weeks. The Bridgewater Branch does not circulate adult magazines. Newspapers do
not circulate.
Pamphlets - Pamphlets may be taken out for
two weeks.
Audio Materials - Books-on-tape, music
tapes, and compact discs may be taken out for two weeks. Self-help or language tapes may
be taken out for four weeks. Check with your local branch library for quantity
restrictions.
Art Prints - The North Plainfield Branch has
art prints available for circulation. One may be taken out for 90 days.
Videocassettes and DVDs -
All videocassettes and DVDs circulate for a period of seven days and can
be reserved.
Films - The Bridgewater Branch circulates 16
mm films at no charge. Films may be reserved and may be taken out for a period of 24
hours, but an extension period may be allowed. Films should be reserved in advance by
calling or visiting the Bridgewater Branch.
Equipment - The Bridgewater, Mary Jacobs,
North Plainfield, Peapack-Gladstone, and Warren Branches circulate various audio-visual
equipment for a period of 24 hours. The Bridgewater Branch circulates slide projectors,
overhead projectors, screens, cameras, light boards, and tape recorders.
Renewals - Most items may be renewed but
must be done either online or in person (item need not be present). Reserved books, audio materials, art prints, pamphlets, magazines,
and at some branches, 14-day and 21-day fiction books are not renewable.
Books - 10 cents per day for each day the
library is open.
Pamphlets - 10 cents per day for each day
the library is open.
Audio Materials - 10 cents per day for each
day the library is open.
CD-ROMs - 10 cents per day. $10.00 maximum
fine on overdue CDs.
The maximum fine on books, pamphlets, audio
materials and art prints is $5.00.
Inter-Library Loan - 25 cents per day for
each day the library is open.
Videocassettes - $1.00 per day for each day
the library is open. $10.00 maximum fine on overdue videocassettes. If they are dropped in
the book drop, the charge is $5.00 per tape in addition to the $1.00 overdue
fine.*
*Since non-book materials
may not be placed in the book drop, at the Bridgewater Branch there is a
media drop, after hours, for those materials. The drop is located to
the right of the main entrance of the library.
Now that the library system is computerized,
overdue notices are automatically generated after two weeks. After six weeks, a lost
notice, which includes the price of the item plus a processing fee, is mailed to the
patron.
A person may not be allowed to borrow items
if:
- 100 items are checked out to that
person.
- Unpaid fines are $10.00 or more.
- More than 10 items are overdue.
- More than 5 items have been claimed
returned.
- Updated information necessary for card
renewal has not been provided.
- Outstanding fines have not been settled at
time of card renewal.
The Library Commission may
change the rules regarding eligibility for cards, checkouts or fines at
any regular meeting.
